ARTIST STATEMENTS (Marilyn ~ Tommie)
~ Marilyn Russell ~
~ Marion Long ~ For as long as I can remember I've been sketching and painting or coloring. Only over the past eight or ten years have I taken my artistic endeavors seriously. During this time I have exhibited numerous times in the Land Mark Studios, Bodega, CA...the Lief Erikson Gallery, downtown Sacramento...Mum's restaurant, Sacramento...KR Galleries in Sacramento and at Lincoln Arts in Lincoln, CA, as well as the old General Store and at a lovely spa, both in Auburn, CA. While my pieces are normally free-flowing and surrealistic, I have also produced some dramatic portraits and on location land and seascapes. Although I have had very little formal art training, I have had the privilege of studying portrait drawing with Juan Pena along with taking several night classes, through the years, in drawing and perspectivism. More recently I've been experiencing the wonderful world of clay...thanks to some very accomplished friends who are patiently helping me along my journey. I express my innermost feelings in my art and I thank God each day for the gift given to me. I can't imagine my life without it and without being able to share this gift with you.
~ Mary Ann Low ~ "Since I was a little girl I've dreamed of being an artist, but never had the courage to follow that dream. I was able to leave the very logical world of computer professionals to follow my artist dream a few years ago. After many diverse classes in watercolor, wheel throwing and clay sculpture I have learned skills needed to do this thing called art. Turning pointgs for me have been membership in local clay and watercolor groups and open studio instruction with many locally well known artist. The sharing artists and their contagious spirit has fed energy into my dreams. I hope that my art can make you think and smile or remind you of something that made you who you are.
~ Sherell Taylor ~ I got started in art by taking a pottery class at Sierra College. After taking several pottery classes, I went on to take clay sculpture. Loved it. Since then, I have taken other classes such as: drawing, figure drawing, figure sculpture, brick murals and photography. ~ I love working with clay because it is very versatile. It can be sculpted into almost any shape and the surface given any number of textures and glazes. ~ Taking a piece of clay and being able to sculpt into something beautiful or sculpting a person or animal that shows personality and emotion is very rewarding. Almost like bringing something to life.
~ Sue Anderson ~
~Thien Dao ~ "For me there are two levels of joy in my work. On the simple physical plane I love to touch the soft clay, the feeling of earth and promise, and let my feeling guide me to create something. The other is the feeling of gratification and gratefulness when a connection is made between a viewer and a particular piece. It is a special privilege to be able to create an art object which can convey such a feeling to another person"
~Tommie Moller ~ "Tommie Moller has the ability to work equally well in various techniques and media.
